This coming season, the Chicago Bears will face off against the Los Angeles Rams for the fourth year in a row. Last year, it didn’t exactly go the way Chicago wanted.
The Bears were dominated in every sense by the Rams in late October, as Los Angeles won by a score of 24-10. Chicago didn’t even score an offensive touchdown in this one.
At one point during the game, though, Bears wideout Darnell Mooney looked like he was about to make an enormous play. The Bears were beginning a drive right around their own 5-yard line and nearly went 95 yards in one play. You can see a clip of the play here.
Mooney shook Rams corner Jalen Ramsey and was wide open, sprinting down the outside of the field. Unfortunately, Nick Foles overthrew Mooney by a mile and it fell incomplete. If the pass would have been on target, Mooney scores on a lengthy play.
Chicago Bears fans won’t let Jalen Ramsey forget that play.
Over the last few days, Bears fans have been chirping at Ramsey on social media. They are using the clip of Mooney running past Ramsey to try and get under Ramsey’s skin. Well, it’s safe to say they have done just that, because Ramsey’s recent Instagram story revealed some frustration.
“Can’t wait til week 1 so all these lame a** Bears fans can stfu about they number 2 wr … it’s funny kus they know better too”
Ramsey included a few laughing emojis here and there in his story as well, but you get the point. He is clearly sick of all the talk about that play that never really meant anything in the end, anyways.
The end of that short post obviously insinuates that Bears fans know better than to try and throw Ramsey off his game. After all, he is arguably the best cornerback in the NFL and not a guy you want playing angry.
Nonetheless, it makes for some excellent bulletin board material and motivation for Mooney throughout the summer. Any coach or player will tell you that, once they get the official schedule, they already begin preparing for that Week 1 opponent just a little more than others.
Mooney will have a lot to think on over the summer as he gets ready to take on Ramsey and that vaunted Rams defense in prime time. Who knows, maybe Mooney even has a certain rookie quarterback throwing to him that night?
Seeing Justin Fields start immediately against the Rams could change things drastically, because if Mooney makes a move like that again, Fields makes that throw. There’s no question. Ramsey better be ready, or he could get put on skates once again.
As I walked through the park, I observed a colony of gulls whaling viciously as they ripped through a paper bag and Styrofoam container to get to scraps from someone’s meal that landed on the ground rather than in its proper place – the nearby trash can. A scene like this is familiar, and I’ve seen it plenty of times before especially in parking lots. But this time was different. I couldn’t help but notice one gull off to the side who for whatever reason decided not to participate in the feeding frenzy.
What did this one gull know that made him decide not to engage in the battle? Had he eaten already and was full? Did he realize that not every gull in the circle would fly away with food and that only the most savage of the colony would dominate? Did he want to wait for the next feeding opportunity? Or was it simply not his turn? Do you have enough restraint to be the one to stay out of this round even when everyone else is inside fighting for a meal ticket? Do you have enough faith to know that you won’t starve? Do you dare to be different and watch from the sideline alone? Only you know when you’re hungry! Just because everyone else is going at it, doesn’t mean you should too. Eat when you’re hungry!

Eric Crawford was gravely wounded in a shooting Sunday in McKinley Park. | Facebook
Patricia Deates’s son Eric was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon, two days after he was shot while riding his bike near his home.
Patricia Deates went to the hospital Tuesday morning prepared to say a “final goodbye” to her 13-year-old son, one of the youngest victims of a violent weekend in Chicago.
“Eric is a wonderful, bright child,” Deates said from her son’s bed at Stroger Hospital.
Within hours, Eric Crawford was dead after being removed from life support, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was about to enter eighth grade, and loved to ride his bike and play video games, Deates said. He had two siblings.
Eric was riding his bike when he was shot about four blocks from his home in McKinley Park Sunday morning.
Someone in the back seat of a white SUV opened fire shortly before 8 a.m. in the 3700 block of South Wood Street, a police spokesperson said. He was hit in his head and neck and taken to Stroger, where his condition was described as “grave.”
Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said the shooting may have been a gang retaliation.
“The subject was riding his bike when it looks like a rival gang was following him and targeting him, and shot him and fled the area,” Deenihan said Monday at a news conference on the weekend, the most violent of the year so far.
He did not give details, and the family disputed that Eric was in a gang.
Deates told WGN-TV that Eric was not in a gang, though gang members had been trying to recruit him. “Yes, they have. And I blame them. Every single one of them,” she told the station.
On a GoFundMe page, the family said Eric was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
They said Eric was trying to cope with his grandfather having just been taken to the emergency room. ”Eric is a loving, caring child,” they said.
Eric is one of several children caught in gun violence in Chicago in the last week. A 2-year-old girl was shot Friday evening as she sat in the backseat of a car near the Cook County criminal courthouse. Earlier that day, a 14-year-old girl was shot as she stood outside in Englewood. A day earlier, gunfire wounded an 8-year-old boy in Lawndale. Police said he was not the intended target.
The family’s online fundraiser had received over $3,300 by Wednesday morning.

The ChicagoBulls have officially been eliminated from playoff contention for the fourth straight year. The year could be deemed as a success including the additions of many valuable assets like Billy Donovan, Arturas Karnisovas, Marc Eversley, and Nikola Vucevic. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – FEBRUARY 28: Patrick Kane #88 of the Chicago Blackhawks celebrates his 400th career goal in the third period against the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center on February 28, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)
The Chicago Blackhawks had an up and down season but ultimately it was another season that saw them well out of the playoffs at the final buzzer. They wasted away what could have been an extra few years of contention and it is sort of sad to see. Unfortunately, they aren’t going to be a contender again for a long time. They need to ask some hard questions and execute in order to actually rebuild the team the right way.
The ChicagoBlackhawks need to make some major changes in order to rebuild properly.
Anyone who expects Jonathan Toews to make up nine standings points is delusional. He is amazing but this team is not good enough at full strength. The depth is very weak and it isn’t getting better any time soon. They need to actually rebuild the roster which is going to be a painful process. In fact, and some people aren’t going to want to hear this, but it is time to trade Patrick Kane while they can still get a lot for him.
The main reason that they can get a lot from him is that he produces at as high of a level as any offensive player in the National Hockey League. Kane’s 66 points were tied with Auston Matthews and Mikko Rantanen for the fifth-most in the NHL. He only trailed Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Brad Marchand, and Mitchell Marner. All of those guys are amongst the best scorers in the NHL right now.
The next reason is that Parick Kane still has two more years left on his current deal. He would be more than just a one-year rental. The Blackhawks might have to retain some of his 10.5 million but they can afford it if it means getting back some quality assets. Adding multiple first-round picks and a high-level prospect would be a great way to kickstart a rebuild the right way.
It is less than ideal that they are in this position but you can blame Stan Bowman for being a terrible general manager. Since winning the Stanley Cup in 2015, they have been on a steady decline. They have made bad trades and signings which have ultimately led to their demise. We also can’t forget the weird firing of Joel Quenneville who is the greatest coach in the history of the franchise.
Chicago is in serious danger of not winning a single playoff series for the entire duration of Patrick Kane’s (and Jonathan Toews) contract extension. That is a nightmare because they have wasted the best years of his career. He got better after 2015 somehow and the team just got worse. The first step is admitting it and when they admit that the run is over, the better off they will be.
