Trying to listen to some music Tuesday morning? You may have to use something other than Spotify.

Users of the popular music streaming app Spotify are reporting widespread errors and access issues Tuesday. The service outages and other issues began sometime after 11 a.m. CT.

The root of the issue appears to be a networking issue with Google Cloud, The Verge reports. Users of other popular applications including Snapchat, Discord and Etsy are also reporting errors.

On Spotify’s official status Twitter account, the company recently posted an update saying it’s aware of the problems and looking into them.

We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out! We’ll keep you posted.

Many users across social media are reporting that their music will not play or they’re unable to access the app entirely.

When the Sun-Times tried to access the site around 11:50 a.m. CT, it was unable to load and instead brought up an error page:

Spotify, one of the most popular apps in the world, says that it has more than 380 million active users, including more than 170 million subscribed to the company’s premium tier offering.

Chicago Bears: 1 reason that 2021 will benefit Justin FieldsVincent Pariseon November 16, 2021 at 5:00 pm

2021 has been a disaster for the Chicago Bears. Ryan Pace has built a very flawed roster that is incredibly top-heavy. He has been a very bad draft-picking general manager, especially in the early rounds. Matt Nagy has also been awful at getting the most out of the roster. The man who was supposed to […] Chicago Bears: 1 reason that 2021 will benefit Justin Fields – Da Windy City – Da Windy City – A Chicago Sports Site – Bears, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, Blackhawks, Fighting Illini & MoreRead More

‘Bruised’: The movie flails, but Halle Berry makes a solid MMA fighterRichard Roeperon November 16, 2021 at 4:17 pm

Halle Berry directs “Bruised” and stars as disgraced UFC fighter Jackie Justice. | Netflix

The star’s exhausting directorial debut pummels us with cliches and subplots.

It’s the MMA version of “Million Dollar Baby” meets “Rocky” in Halle Berry’s directorial debut “Bruised,” a well-acted and occasionally involving but overly long, cliche-stuffed sports film that hits all the usual notes and piles on the subplot drama to the point where we’re nearly exhausted by the viewing experience.

Berry reminds us of her longstanding movie-star power in a no-frills, authentic and moving performance as a disgraced UFC fighter named Jackie Justice who is given the obligatory One Last Shot at Redemption. Her overall direction is suitably tailored to the gritty story, but “Bruised” is far too predictable, and the screenplay is filled with borderline corny dialogue and obvious symbolism. I mean, subtlety is not the order of the day when “Just the Two of Us” plays on a small speaker in front of a storefront when two characters realize it’s, well, just the two of them; when we hear a string music version of “Hallelujah” on the soundtrack as a key character makes a big first stride in the right direction; and when a trainer tells Jackie, “This is your shot, Jackie, this is your shot … to show all of them the real Jackie Justice.”

Yes. We know that. We’ve been watching the movie.

When we meet Berry’s Jackie, she’s working as a maid for rich snobs, drinking too much and living in a tiny Newark apartment with her verbally abusive boyfriend/manager Desi (Adan Canto). (During one of their almost nightly fights, Jackie exclaims, “You’re a part-time limo driver and a full-time loser!”) When Desi surprises Jackie by taking her to a basement fight club and Jackie has to defend herself against a much larger brawler, she shows enough grit and fight to draw the attention of the promoter known as Immaculate (Shamier Anderson), who hooks Jackie up with the Zen badass trainer Buddhakan (Sheila Atim), and yes, all these colorful names for characters are straight out of the Sylvester Stallone playbook. In what seems like a very short time, Immaculate offers Jackie the opportunity to fight for the UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship against the undefeated Lady Killer (played by real-life UFC champ Valentina Shevchenko.) Looks like we’ve got ourselves a good old-fashioned Underdog Sports Movie!

We also get enough side drama to fill an entire and separate film when Jackie’s mother, Angel (Adriane Lenox) shows up one night with Jackie’s 6-year-old son Manny (Danny Boyd Jr.) after Manny’s father was shot and killed. Manny is so traumatized he doesn’t speak, Jackie hasn’t seen the boy since she abandoned him when he was an infant, and to say there’s some serious stuff in Jackie’s past that she needs to work out with her mother is a massive understatement.

“Bruised” delivers the expected series of montages/metaphors, as Jackie isn’t just training for the big fight, she’s training for the Fight of Her Life. The climactic fight is well-shot (with the usual combination of long shots and quick-cut closeups as the camera swirls about, indie-style), but Lady Killer isn’t a particular hiss-worthy villain or even a villain at all, as the real fight is between Jackie and her past. After all Jackie and the viewer have been through, the battle and its aftermath just don’t pack all that much of a lasting punch.

Bielema, 51, is vaccinated and received the booster shot last week. He’ll miss Saturday’s game at Iowa.

Illinois head coach Bret Bielema tested positive for COVID-19, he announced Tuesday.

Bielema, 51, is vaccinated and received the booster shot last week. He’ll miss Saturday’s game at Iowa.

“After developing mild symptoms yesterday, I was tested and, unfortunately, late Monday night tested positive for a breakthrough case,” he said in a statement. “I’m disappointed that I will not be with our team this week. …

“If all stays on the current path, I should be available and present for next week. Our team has shown repeatedly this year that ‘next man up’ is the standard, not the exception, and this will be another example of this mentality.”

Assistant head coach George McDonald will lead the team while Bielema is out. The Illini are 4-6 with games against Iowa and Northwestern remaining and need to win both to lock up an invitation to a bowl game.

“Unfortunately,” athletic director Josh Whitman said, “we are being reminded every day that the pandemic is not over.”

Midway points: Answering the Bears’ biggest questions after 9 gamesPatrick Finleyon November 16, 2021 at 2:55 pm

The Sun-Times’ Patrick Finley breaks down the Bears’ first half of the season and previews what’s ahead:

The Sun-Times’ Patrick Finley breaks down the Bears’ first half of the season and previews what’s ahead:

The biggest question facing the Bears is:

Can they learn how to win? Justin Fields showing progress is essential to the franchise’s future, but winning is an important part of his growth. The Bears haven’t won a game in 5 1/2 weeks, the third losing streak in as many years of at least four games. “It’s easy to say, ‘OK, well, you want to get better,'” cornerback Jaylon Johnson said. “But you can get better and lose the rest of these games — and that doesn’t feel like a success.”

The most impressive part of Justin Fields has been:

He played his best game of the year Week 8 against the 49ers — and then played an even better one in Week 9. Rookie growth is never perfectly linear — he’ll undoubtedly fall back and leap forward a few more times — but the last two weeks have been encouraging.

The most concerning part of Justin Fields has been:

He’s been sacked on 13.4 percent of his dropbacks, the worst mark in the NFL in 15 years. Getting shell-shocked as a rookie has harmed better quarterbacks than Fields over the years. The Bears better hope this doesn’t do any long-term physical or mental damage — and that he makes it through the season upright.

Is Matt Nagy doing a capable job?

No. His 3-6 Bears are 15th out of 16 NFC teams, ahead of only the Lions. But if Nagy can keep Fields on an undeniable upward trajectory over the next eight weeks — and can win a few games — he’ll have a chance to keep his job. George McCaskey’s vague mandate for “progress” allows for such wiggle room.

Midseason MVP:

Roquan Smith is so good, it’s boring. The linebacker’s side-to-side pass coverage skills are essential in the modern game, He’s one of only three Bears defenders to start every game this season, too. But how’s this for a dark horse runner-up: safety DeAndre Houston-Carson, who owns the Bears’ last three takeaways and has filled in admirably at a position depleted by injury.

Midseason disappointment:

Tarik Cohen hasn’t played a snap of football since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Week 3 of 2020. There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline for the injury, but Cohen — by no fault of his own — has been out longer than even the most conservative estimates would allow. It’s an unfortunate development for the running back — whose offseason was compounded by the death of his twin brother — and for a team that needs all the explosive playmakers it can collect.

Record prediction over the final eight games:

4-4, with a surprise win at home against the Cardinals.
