Bears QB Justin Fields’ status remains in question for Packers game

Bears coach Matt Eberflus wouldn’t give any hint about whether quarterback Justin Fields will return this week against the Packers. He said he was optimistic about him playing, but added, “I’m always optimistic.”

Eberflus also said it’s a non-factor that the opponent is Green Bay, and Fields will play if he and key parties in the organization believe he can play at full capacity.

Fields missed his first game of the season Sunday against the Jets because of a separated left shoulder he suffered against the Falcons in Week 11. Eberflus kept open the possibility of him playing in the Jets game all last week and cast it as a game-time decision before making him inactive and starting Trevor Siemian instead.

Siemian completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards with a touchdown and interception for a 75.2 passer rating.

Fields has improved significantly throughout the season and still leads all quarterbacks with 834 yards rushing and seven touchdown runs despite missing a game. He also has completed 59.6% of his passes, thrown 13 touchdowns against eight interceptions and posted an 86. 2 passer rating — up 13 points from his rookie season.

Fields is 0-3 in his career against the Packers. In the 27-10 loss in Week 2 this season, he completed just 7 of 11 passes for 70 yards.

Jose Abreu era comes to end with White Sox

First baseman Jose Abreu’s time on the South Side is officially over.

The White Sox slugger, who had played his entire nine-year career in Chicago since signing out of Cuba before the 2014 season, is reportedly in agreement on a three-year, $60 million deal with the World Series champion Houston Astros.

It had become increasingly apparent since the end of the season that the Sox were prepared to part ways with Abreu, 35, and move on with Andrew Vaughn moving from the outfield to his customary position. Vaughn was drafted as a first baseman with the first pick in the 2019 draft as a first baseman. The Sox also have numerous designated hitter options, including Eloy Jimenez and Yasmani Grandal.

In losing Abreu, the Sox say goodbye to one of their most productive hitters of all time. He batted .292/.354/.506 with 243 homers and 863 RBI in a Sox uniform. Only Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko have hit more homers in a Sox uniform.

Abreu had six seasons with 25 or more home runs and six with more than 100 RBI but recorded 15 homers and 75 RBI this season while batting .304/.378/.446. He signed a six-year, $68 million contract to leave Cuba for the Sox and just completed the third year of a $50 million contract.

For the Astros, Abreu’s signing brings an end to Yuli Gurriel’s tenure as their full-time first baseman.

Besides his value as a hitter, Abreu was a fan favorite and respected teammate. At the general managers meetings in Las Vegas last month, GM Rick Hahn spoke of Abreu’s accomplishments and value in the clubhouse as a tireless worker who led by example. Abreu was often the first player to show up for work, arriving around noon for night games, and he often played hurt.

“If he’s not with us next year he’ll be missed,” Hahn said. “It’s good that we’re insulated from a production standpoint against that departure. But certainly would never disrespect the importance he’s meant to this organization.”

The Astros open the 2023 season in Houston on March 30 against the Sox.

AP Top 25: South Carolina remains unanimous No. 1 in women’s college basketball poll

South Carolina remained the unanimous No. 1 choice in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll released Monday as the Gamecocks keep close watch on the foot injury of reigning Player of the Year Aliyah Boston.

The Gamecocks received all 29 first-place votes in the poll released Monday, a day after Boston left a game with her injury. Coach Dawn Staley said Boston was “questionable” going forward but added that the “team doctor wasn’t too, too concerned.”

South Carolina’s next game is Tuesday at home against No. 15 UCLA.

Stanford remained No. 2 after cruising through a tournament in Hawaii. It’s the 618th appearance for Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer, tying the late Pat Summitt for most all-time. Summitt’s teams only missed being in the poll 14 times during her Hall of Fame career at Tennessee.

UConn, Ohio State and Indiana rounded out the top five.

The Huskies are one of four Big East teams to be ranked this week as Marquette entered the poll at No. 24. It’s the first time the Big East has four ranked teams since the conference realigned in 2014. The league is 56-14 so far this season, including going 8-2 against ranked teams.

“We’ve been trying to earn a little more respect,” Marquette coach Megan Duffy said of the Big East. “Tried to schedule tougher non-conference (games). ‘Nova’s playing people. Us going to the Bahamas was great. Creighton’s doing what they’ve been doing since last season. Getting some of those quality wins is everything.”

North Carolina moved up two spots to No. 6 after rallying to beat then-No. 5 Iowa State in the Phil Knight tournament. The Cyclones fell to eighth.

The Tar Heels visit the Hoosiers on Tuesday in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Indiana returns home after winning two games in Las Vegas at a subpar venue that lacked basic necessities.

Notre Dame remained No. 7 while Virginia Tech and Iowa finished off the top 10. At No. 9, Virginia Tech has matched its best ranking ever and is in the top 10 for the first time since 1999.

Tennessee fell out of the poll this week marking the 56th time in the 827-week history of the poll that the Lady Vols weren’t ranked. Kansas State also fell out with Gonzaga moving in at No. 23.

FALLING CARDINALS

Louisville dropped to 18th in the poll this week after falling to South Dakota State in the fifth place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis last week. It’s the Cardinals lowest ranking since Jan. 11, 2016.

Louisville entered the top 10 in the preseason poll in 2017 and hadn’t been out since, a span of 98 consecutive weeks. It was the longest active streak.

AP Top 25: Houston tops men’s basketball poll for first time since 1983

Make some room, Phi Slama Jama. Another Houston team has reached the top of men’s college basketball.

Nearly four decades after Clyde Drexler and Akeem Olajuwon took the Cougars to No. 1, the latest bunch led by Marcus Sasser and star freshman Jarace Walker took over the top spot in the AP Top 25 on Monday. They received 45 of 63 first-place votes from the national media panel, easily outdistancing second-place Texas and third-place Virginia.

“It’s not like we went online and applied for it and waited for a response back. We’ve been working for this,” said Houston coach Kelvin Sampson, whose team is coming off a Final Four and Elite Eight trip the past two seasons. “But remember, it’s a rental. You don’t own it. You’re just renting it because someday somebody else is going to be No. 1.”

North Carolina had been No. 1 all season, but the Tar Heels lost to Iowa State and in a four-overtime thriller to Alabama at the Phil Knight Invitational to cede the top spot to Houston, which beat Kent State in its only game last week.

The last time the Cougars ascended to No. 1 was the final poll of the 1982-83 season, when “The Glide” and “The Dream” along with coach Guy Lewis were the favorites to win it all. They rolled through the NCAA Tournament before falling to Jim Valvano and North Carolina State in an iconic championship game in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“I’ve never been ranked No. 1,” said Sampson, now in his 34th season as a college basketball coach. “We were ranked all 12 years at Oklahoma. I’m sure we were ranked at Indiana. Then we’ve been ranked five or six straight years. We’re used to having a high level of success.”

Texas received eight first-place votes and Virginia received two. Arizona climbed from 14th to fourth after emerging from a stacked field to win the Maui Invitational. Purdue jumped from 24th all the way to fifth and scooped up eight first-place votes after beating West Virginia, Gonzaga and Duke at the Phil Knight Legacy tourney.

“Our guys are competitive. They’re fun to coach. They get along. They’re out there playing with purpose and that’s what you have to have,” said Boilermakers coach Matt Painter, whose team was briefly No. 1 about this time last season.

“Early in the season, very few teams play with the purpose collectively,” he said. “I thought our guys played with a purpose.”

Baylor was sixth, Creighton seventh and U Conn climbed from 20th to eighth after beating Oregon, Alabama and Iowa State to win the Phil Knight Invitational. Kansas fell from third to ninth after losing to Tennessee in the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis, while Indiana rounded out the top 10.

There was a tie for 11th between SEC rivals Alabama and Arkansas with the Volunteers, another conference foe, right behind them. Gonzaga dropped from sixth to 14th, its first time outside the top 10 since Feb. 5, 2018, and Auburn was 15th.

Illinois was next followed by Duke and North Carolina in a tough week for Tobacco Road. The Blue Devils fell from eighth after their 75-56 loss to the Boilermakers.

Kentucky and Michigan State joined UCLA, Maryland, Iowa State, San Diego State and Ohio State in rounding out the poll.

RISING AND FALLING

Purdue made a rare 19-spot jump as the poll underwent a massive shakeup. UConn climbed 12 spots, Arizona moved up 10, Tennessee climbed nine and Alabama seven. On the flip side, the Tar Heels tumbled 17 spots, Duke dropped nine, Gonzaga fell eight and San Diego State fell seven.

IN AND OUT

Despite all the movement, Iowa State was the only newcomer this week, checking in at No. 23 after beating Villanova and North Carolina before falling to UConn. The Cyclones replaced Iowa, which dropped out after a one-week stay following its loss to TCU in the title game of the Emerald Coast Classic.

CONFERENCE WATCH

There are six difference conferences represented in the first seven teams in the poll. The Big Ten leads the way with six in the Top 25 while the SEC has five and the Big 12 has four, though three of them are in the top 10.

THE TOP 25

High school basketball: Previewing the Chicago Elite Classic

The Chicago Elite Classic has been a fixture on the high school basketball schedule for the past 10 years.

With their coaches Tyrone Slaughter and Robert Smith leading the way, Chicago basketball powers Young and Simeon have worked together each year for the past decade to bring national talent to Chicago the first weekend of December. That endless list of talent has included nationally-ranked programs and future college stars and pros.

But the 11th edition of the Chicago Elite Classic this weekend at Credit Union 1 Arena at UIC is a little different than past ones. There are some familiar national powerhouses, including Missouri’s best program, St. Louis Vashon, Gonzaga out of Washington, D.C., and National Christian in Maryland. But this year’s Chicago Elite Classic is bringing more local matchups to the table that will get people talking and fans in the stands.

The Saturday night slate is a must-see, highlighted by a doozy of a doubleheader featuring the four teams — Simeon, St. Rita, Kenwood and Joliet West — that began the season ranked one, two, three and four in the preseason rankings.

Here is a brief rundown of the schedule and a preview of the nine matchups on the docket.

Friday, Dec. 2

Lane vs. Taft, 6 p.m.

A couple of North Side schools — one in the Red Division and one in the White Division — square off in an event that is a boon for their respective programs. Lane’s 6-4 Shaheed Solebo is a rising prospect in the junior class. As the young players in the program gain experience, Taft, playing with a White Division chip on its shoulder, will lean on seniors Julian Martinez and Armin Aliloski.

Oak Park vs. Fenwick, 7:30 p.m.

This rivalry has been an integral part of this event over the years. Oak Park is led by the backcourt of senior Christian Marshall and junior Max Johnson. A youthful Fenwick team, which starts four sophomores and a junior, will get some seasoning in a big-time environment.

No. 13 Benet vs. Riverside-Brookfield, 9 p.m.

Benet has the perimeter trio of Niko Abusara, Brady Kunka and Brayden Fagbemi to lean on early, while Riverside-Brookfield, though very talented, will need some time to gel. But keep an eye on Arius Alijosius, one of the state’s elite shooters, and the junior duo of guard Will Gonzalez and 6-10 Stefan Cicic.

Saturday, Dec. 3

No. 23 Hyde Park vs. U-High, noon

First-year coach Jerrel Oliver and the Thunderbirds are off to a 2-0 start and get the early tip. Catch a glimpse of one of the underrated backcourts in the state in Hyde Park’s Cameron Wiliford and Damarion Morris.

No. 18 Mount Carmel vs. North Lawndale, 1:30 p.m.

North Lawndale would love to show people they’re an overlooked team in the city, and they get a chance to do just that against ranked Mount Carmel. DeAndre Craig and Angelo Ciaravino lead a Caravan team that’s primed and ready for a big season.

No. 8 St. Ignatius vs. Gonzaga (Washington, DC), 3 p.m.

A big test for a St. Ignatius team off to a terrific 4-0 start with wins over New Trier and Lake Forest. The Wolfpack will face perennial national power Gonzaga in what will be a huge early-season measuring stick. The Division I tandem of Richard Barron (George Mason) and Jackson Kotecki (Miami-Ohio) is one to watch.

No. 10 Curie vs. St. Louis Vashon, 4:30 p.m.

Coach Mike Oliver’s program gets a shot at the premier program in Missouri. All Vashon has done is win 16 state championships, including five titles since 2016. This year’s Vashon team is led by SIU recruit Kennard Davis, a 6-6 senior forward. Curie counters with junior star Carlos Harris and under-appreciated senior Jeremy Harrington.

No. 5 Young vs. National Christian (Maryland), 6 p.m.

Dalen Davis, who is headed to Princeton, leads a Young team that is no stranger to the big stage. Davis, 6-7 Daniel Johnson and Marcus Pigram are three seniors who have all played in big games — and have three games under their belt this season.

No. 1 Simeon vs. No. 4 St. Rita, 7:30 p.m.

There is endless, high-level talent, but the battle inside between seniors Miles Rubin (Loyola) and Wes Rubin (Northern Iowa) of Simeon and St. Rita juniors James Brown and Morez Johnson is one to watch. The 6-8 Johnson has committed to Illinois while the 6-9 Brown trimmed his list to Duke, Eastern Michigan, Howard, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

No. 3 Kenwood vs. No. 2 Joliet West, 9:00 p.m.

Michigan State recruit Jeremy Fears, Jr. leads Joliet West. Kansas State-bound Darrin Ames headlines the talent at Kenwood. They are a pair of elite players and two of the most dynamic guards in the state.

Sunday, Dec. 4

It’s a full day of girls basketball. Simeon vs. Oak Forest at noon, Phillips vs H-F at 1:30, Butler vs. Lincoln-Way Central at 3, Kenwood vs. St. Louis Vashon at 4:30 and Young vs. Barrington at 6.

Notable bets: Bears’ pregame tweet sparks surge of bets on Jets, temporarily angering bettorson November 28, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Trevor Siemian’s status leading up to kickoff Sunday created quite a stir. Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

A pregame tweet from the Chicago Bears‘ public relations team sparked a 45-minute surge of bets on the New York Jets on Sunday but turned out to be inaccurate, causing angry bettors to temporarily call for refunds and investigations.

With the Bears and Jets facing potential quarterback changes, the game attracted heavy betting interest all week. The Jets began the week as 4.5-point favorites. The line held steady even after it was announced that Jets quarterback Zach Wilson would be benched.

Later in the week, as skepticism about the health of Bears quarterback Justin Fields began to grow, the point spread ticked up to Jets -7. By Sunday, twice as much money had been bet on Bears-Jets as any other game at Caesars Sportsbook, a robust handle that included a $330,000 bet on the Jets placed midweek.

Then, the infamous tweet took things up a notch.

At 12:11 p.m., 49 minutes prior to kickoff, the Bears tweeted that third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman would get the start against the Jets, instead of Trevor Siemian. Siemian, who was expected to start in place of the injured Fields, suffered an oblique injury during warm-ups and would be relegated to backup, according to the Bears’ tweet.

“We all remember the game [Peterman] played when he threw all those picks,” Adam Pullen, assistant director of trading for Caesars Sportsbook, said Sunday night, recalling Peterman’s five-interception game in 2017 with the Buffalo Bills. “When it came over that he was going to play, you’re like, ‘Oh, boy,’ you know here comes the Jets money.”

Sportsbooks reacted to the announcement by moving the line from Jets -7 to -7.5. Bettors reacted by hammering the Jets. Caesars said from the time of the Bears’ tweet to kickoff, 82.8% of the money bet on the game’s point spread was on the Jets, including a pair of $100,000 bets on New York -7.5 placed in Nevada shortly after the announcement. The Borgata, BetMGM and FanDuel also reported a surge of late action on the Jets. But there was a problem.

Five minutes prior to kickoff, the Bears told reporters that the starting quarterback was now a game-time decision, and Siemian eventually trotted out to take the opening snap. The bettors who took the Jets based on Peterman getting the start were not pleased and took to Twitter to express their concerns. Some called for all bets on the game to be refunded; others wanted the NFL to investigate and fine the Bears.

Alex Blasig, a sports bettor and host of the “Real Friends & Football” podcast, told ESPN he bet the Jets -7.5 as soon as he saw that Peterman was starting.

A daily sports betting news and information show (6-7 p.m. ET, ESPN2) that aims to better serve the millions of sports fans who participate in sports wagering and help educate general sports fans with in-depth analysis. Watch >>

“I tried to get -7, but the line moved quickly,” Blasig said. “[I] figured it would be a good bet due to the fact that Peterman was probably super limited in snaps.”

Blasig said he wouldn’t have made the bet if not for the news of Peterman starting in place of Siemian. When shown the tweet from the Bears’ PR team, Blasig said, “Wild. They should get fined for that.”

The outrage from bettors on Twitter escalated after Siemian threw a touchdown pass to Byron Pringle to give the Bears a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter. The calls for refunds and investigations quieted down in the second half, as quarterback Mike White helped the Jets pull away to an easy 31-10 victory.

“I definitely would’ve been super upset if the Bears ended up covering,” Blasig added.

Siemian told reporters he strained his oblique in pregame warm-ups and went back to the locker room for treatment. Bears coach Matt Eberflus added that Peterman was ready to go if needed.

Multiple sportsbooks said they suffered a small loss on the game, with the bulk of the money on the Jets. It’s the latest pregame drama that has caused significant line movement and left bettors and bookmakers frustrated.

Ahead of a Week 3 game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers, a video board at SoFi Stadium showed a picture of backup Chase Daniel as the Chargers’ starting quarterback. Justin Herbert ended up starting. And three weeks ago, Bills quarterback Josh Allen didn’t appear in pregame warm-ups until late, before starting against the Minnesota Vikings.

“We’re at the mercy of information like everyone else,” Pullen said. “If the team says it, you have to think that it’s legit. We’ve seen it happen quite a few times, and it’s going to happen even more. Social media and all the other avenues of information that we have, it just takes one little thing and people act on that information. But if the team puts it out, how are you not supposed to believe that it’s true?”

NFL notables

o The most common description of the Thanksgiving weekend from sportsbooks was “busy.” On top of traditional NFL, college football and holiday college basketball tournaments, there was World Cup action.

“It felt like there was football from 2 a.m. to 12 a.m. [Thursday],” Craig Mucklow, vice president of trading for Caesars, said.

Mucklow said the New York GiantsDallas Cowboys and New England PatriotsMinnesota Vikings games generated massive betting handle, with each ranking in the top 10 most heavily bet games of the season so far.

John Murray, executive director at the SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas, echoed those sentiments. Murray said his sportsbook did more business on Giants-Cowboys and Patriots-Vikings than on any of the Sunday games. He described Sunday’s NFL action as “very low energy.”

“I think people were wiped out from the holiday weekend,” Murray said. “Between the World Cup, the college basketball tournaments, college football rivalry games and the NFL, I can’t say I blame them.”

o Two outright upsets in the early slate buoyed a winning Sunday for several sportsbooks.

“The two best results of the day for the book came in the two closes games, with the Bucs falling in OT to the Browns and the Jags overcoming the Ravens in exciting fashion at the death,” Kevin Lawler, head of trading for PointsBet, said.

The Jaguars converted a go-ahead two-point conversion with 14 seconds left in a 28-27 win over the favored Baltimore Ravens. The last-minute victory produced one of the biggest swings of the day at sportsbook PointsBet, where 94% of the money that was wagered on the money line — the odds to win the game straight up — was on the Ravens.

o Caesars described Sunday’s results as “decent.” The best games for bettors were the Kansas City Chiefs covering the 15-point spread in 26-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers covering the 9-point spread in a 13-0 win over the New Orleans Saints.

“All the big favorites won, and all those teasers added up,” Pullen said. “A lot of teaser money, especially here in Nevada, came in and got there pretty easily.”

o Mike White started at quarterback for the Jets, in place of Zach Wilson, against the Bears. In a steady rain, White completed 22 of 28 passes for 315 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the 31-10 win. At Mojo, a sports betting platform that allows customers to buy and sell shares based on career statistical performances, White’s stock increased by 29%, from $3.01 to $3.89, on Sunday. Wilson’s stock dropped 26%, from $29.68 to $21.96, over the past week.

College football notables

o The betting action on Michigan-Ohio State was heavy and extremely balanced at most sportsbooks. A few hours prior to the noon kickoff at Caesars Sportsbook, the money wagered and the number of bets were practically dead even. The story was a little different at WynnBET, where a bettor in New Jersey on Friday placed what the book said was the largest college football bet of the season — $735,535 on Ohio State to win the game straight up at -310 odds.

The action was a little different at WynnBET, thanks to a $753,535 money-line bet on the Buckeyes that was placed Friday by a bettor in New Jersey. That money will be staying with the house, as the underdog Wolverines rolled to a 45-23 upset.

Odds & Ends

o College basketball: PointsBet on Wednesday reported taking a $20,000 money-line bet on American University to beat Georgetown at +850 odds. American won 74-70, and the bettor won a net $170,000.

o World Cup: More money was bet on Friday’s U.S.-England match than any other World Cup match so far at multiple sportsbooks. The amount wagered on U.S.-England at Caesars Sportsbook was comparable to a “high-end NBA or college football game.”

The U.S. is a small favorite over Iran in a must-win match Tuesday. The U.S. is listed as a -103 favorite to win, with Iran +300. The match ending in a draw is +230 at Caesars Sportsbook.

Blackhawks lose to Jets as another early deficit spirals into a blowout

The Blackhawks cannot find a way to score first.

They’ve conceded the first goal in eight consecutive games. And after a lopsided 7-2 blowout defeat Sunday against the Jets, they’ve lost seven consecutive games. The parallel trends are no coincidence.

“Frustrating is a good word, but I think it’s more exhausting,” coach Luke Richardson said recently. “It takes a lot out of you in this league to play from behind.”

In the season overall, they’ve now conceded first in 17 of 21 games — the last time they gave a scoreboard its first action of a night came back on Nov. 10 against the Kings. And they’ve now lost 15 of those 21 games, including 13 of the last 15.

“If we score [first], maybe it’s different,” Richardson said postgame Sunday. “Maybe we’d dial in a little deeper, instead of playing a little more spread apart. I think it could help, but we can’t just snap our fingers and do it. We have to work for it.”

The Hawks actually believed, for a moment Sunday, they’d finally snapped that weird drought. Andreas Athanasiou poked in a rebound off a Patrick Kane shot and celebrated what he believed to be his seventh goal of the season along with a crowd of 17,611 at the United Center.

But they thought wrong. Athanasiou’s goal was ruled offside on review after a Jets challenge. Not long after, Jets forward Jansen Harkin finished off a lengthy scramble around the net to give the visitors the lead.

The Hawks, to their credit, have occasionally found some traction once they’ve fallen behind in recent games, including a rally to a temporary tie from 3-0 down against the Penguins last weekend.

But they’ve run out of steam before translating most of those comebacks into wins, and on Sunday, no rally came at all. The Jets skated away with the game in the second and third periods.

Saku Maenalanen — a depth forward who entered the night with five career NHL goals — scored twice, his second strike coming on a perfectly placed snipe over Petr Mrazek’s glove. Whenever an opponent receives contributions like that, it’s nearly impossible for these depth-lacking Hawks to keep up.

The home locker room remained closed for an unusual 14 minutes after the final horn, and captain Jonathan Toews spoke once it opened — two common signs of a team meeting.

“Ultimately, we’re in a situation here where we’ve lost quite a few games, and it’s not a good feeling,” Toews said. “It’s easy, when you don’t get those bounces, to let it deflate you. And collectively, we’ve just got to be a little bit more mentally strong and know that we’re in this situation and we’ve got to work ourselves out of it.

“I’m never going to get into the specifics about what’s being said in the locker room. But all in all, we all agree that — as a group — we need to be more mentally prepared. Even if there are nights where it’s a long season and sometimes you don’t have the energy…you’ve just got to find ways to play a better team game and keep yourself in games.”

The Jets’ victory continued a pattern of domination over the Hawks in recent years. They’ve won six of the last seven and 13 of the last 16 meetings.

But even though the Jets will promptly return to Chicago on Dec. 9, the Hawks will be more focused moving forward on two more relevant patterns: Not scoring first, and not winning very often against anyone.

“We can’t just say, ‘Oh yeah, I should’ve done better,'” Richardson said. “We have to act better. Otherwise in the NHL, your time doesn’t last long.”

River North restaurants cut hours more than any area in U.S. during COVID: survey

River North restaurants have cut 20.2 hours per week, on average, since COVID hit. Restaurant owners cite reasons including inflation, lack of workers and changing consumer habits. But the biggest issue may be the sluggish return to workers downtown.
