“It’s a game changer,” he explained.
President Joe Biden was so enthralled with ordering the west coast ports to open up 24/7 to relieve the backup of scores of cargo ships, has also now ordered the military to be on guard 24/7.
“We cannot sleep. We must be alert at all hours if we expect to be safe,” Biden said at a press conference at which he answered no questions.
“I’ve signed legislation, I mean I’ve signed an executive order for the Defense Department to make sure that no fort is unguarded,” he read from a statement. “All ships at sea must keep the watch around the clock. Fighter jets shouldn’t be bedded at night. And NORAD must be closely watching for anyone’s nuclear missiles heading our way at night.”
“This is the first key step for making sure that Americans can safely sleep in their beds.
“Let me explain: The military, I’ve discovered, is here to protect Americans. Although some of you might abhor the military, they’re important to have around. That’s why I ordered them out of Afghanistan before we could evacuate Americans.
“With holidays coming up, you might be wondering if we will be around to enjoy it,” Biden said, faithfully following the script. “Today we have some good news: We’re going to make sure that Santa Clause can safely make his Christmas Eve night rounds.”
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Joint Chiefs of Staff. Gen. Mark Milley nodded their approval in the background. But they refused, like Biden, to answer reporters’ questions such as, “Doesn’t the military already operate around the clock?”
Sources at the Pentagon, however, were left scratching their heads. “Didn’t the commander-in-chief know that we’re on the 24-hour clock? Does he really think that we’re not an around-the-clock operation already?” asked a source who asked not to be named because he could end up like Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who was sentenced Friday for speaking truth to power.
Less charitable was another anonymous source who called the president a blockhead. “Does he even know what room he’s in?”
Observers remarked that perhaps Biden was swayed by the rousing success that the media accorded him for his plan to get the supply chain moving again, albeit his plan is plenty late. And although his plan assumed that the port, truckers and warehouses weren’t already doing what they thought necessary to save their asses from bankruptcy or worse. Or that he can create truckers and others out of thin air. Can he order them back to work.
Biden, they said, apparently wasn’t aware of the growing supply chain crisis and when someone revealed it to him, he rushed in as if only government could solve the problem. When Biden, doing the bidding of progressives set the stage for a shortage of drivers and others necessary parts of the supply chain, thought it was a wonderful idea to pay people not to work.
