According to multiple sources, Chicago Public Schools athletic directors received emails this week stating that boys swimming and badminton practice would resume on Jan. 25, with contests to begin the following week.
The plan appears tentative. The ongoing dispute between CPS and the Chicago Teachers Union over in-person learning complicates things. The final CTU strike vote won’t be tallied until Saturday night and that could throw a wrench in the possible practices and games.
CPS athletic directors have not received any info on the restart of boys and girls bowling, competitive cheer or competitive dance. Those sports are also allowed to compete according to the latest update from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
According to the sources it seems unlikely that CPS will allow contact days for other sports, something the IDPH and the IHSA is allowing.
CPS has not responded to a request to confirm the news on swimming and badminton and has not responded to several inquires this week about the status of winter sports.
