WNBA Finals are on and the Chicago Sky are ON – they look strong, fired up, cohesive and unfaltering in their drive to the 2021 title. On Sunday they won game one in fine fashion and by that I mean not only are their uniforms cool, so are all facets of their game in fine fashion. A 14 point win over the Phoenix Mercury was a true team victory with six Sky players scoring in double figures.
Kahleah Copper continued her strong play with a double-double scoring 21 points and hauling down 10 rebounds. Courtney Vandersloot put up a double-double, with 12 points and 11 assists to her credit to go along with five rebounds. Azura Stevens and Candace Parker both had eight rebounds and 16 points apiece. Stefanie Dolson had one of her best games of the postseason off the bench, scoring 14 points and knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
A solid start to the finals and as a long time fan and a long time member of the sports media having covered the Chicago Sky for over a decade, I am looking to avenge the 3 game sweep of the Sky by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2014 Finals and reverse that outcome. Prediction – Sky SWEEP in three in 2021!
The Chicago White Sox playoff season ended on a sour note with a drubbing by the Houston Astros in today’s game – a 10-1 loss. Tough loss and a bitter ending to a strong regular season. NaNaNa – NaNaNa – hey hey goodbye White Sox.
Chicago Bears – good, bad, good and who knows? The dreaded Packers lead the NFC North and the Bears are in 2nd place with a 3-2 record. Big showdown Sunday as the Packers play the Bears at Soldier Field. Bear down Chicago Bears!
Chicago Cubs – 71-91 record in 2021 – dumped their 3 superstars at the end of July effectively throwing in the towel early this season and ended up 2nd to last in their division. I am personally still sore as hell that they dumped Rizzo, Bryant and Baez and HAVE NOT WATCHED A GAME SINCE. It’s going to take a lot for this team to win me back after this shocking and appalling move by the owners and management to dump 3 of their top players so early in the season. BOO HISS – NaNaNa, NaNaNa, hey hey goodbye Cubs.
