Another camping trip is in the books. This past weekend I packed up the family and traveled to Bong Recreation Area in Burlington, Wisconsin, named for WWII veteran aviator Richard Bong. While I was sleeping under the stars every artist and their brother released a new song.
[embedded content]My Morning Jacket has returned, making the surprise release of The Waterfall II, the highlight of this week’s Release Radar. An album born out of the ashes of recording sessions for The Waterfall, in 2015, when they recorded over two albums of material. I’m excited to dig into this.
[embedded content]Another surprise was Young Jesus, whom I discovered at the intersection of the cut-out bins and the Netflix drama The OA. Ever since that connection happened I’ve been a fan of the noise-rock quartet.
[embedded content]Neon Trees, The Rolling Stones, and Mayer Hawthorne all release interesting singles, along with a really solid effort, maybe their best in a while, from Guided By Voices.
[embedded content] [embedded content]A second single from the Doves is in, and Declan McKenna drops another winner.
[embedded content]Kid Cudi & Eminem, St. Motel, Surfer Blood, and an EP of remixes for The Districts “Cheap Regrets.” Wow, I need more time to digest all this music.
