Another Friday comes and there is more new music waiting in your inbox. We could debate why the President of the United States would hold a rally with 20, 000 people and no masks, or focus on good vibes? I’ll stick to music.
The Doves ARE BACK! How long has it been, eleven years? Finally, they have released a new single called “Carousels” and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s upbeat, a little prog, and a lot of rock. This made my week.
The experimental pop duo Lewis Del Mar, hailing from Rockaway Beach, New York City, returns, true to form, in this week’s Release Radar. “Rosalie (CH. II)” picks up right where they left off. If you’re not a fan yet, I would recommend getting to know them, they are writing unique songs.
Toro y Moi seems to be feeling summer right now. His latest, a collab with The Mattson 2, suits him well. “Ordinary Guy” has a smooth, jazzy, funky vibe that showcases the instrumental duo, while finding Toro right at home as a guy who “doesn’t have thousands to spend/Or a seaside cottage for the weekend.”
Dude, Gregory Porter deserves your ear. He’s such a smooth listen, and I’ll always keep him on almost every playlist. He’s a showstopper, and there’s always someone at the party who says, “Who is this guy?”
“I think some of you are permanently off my Christmas list,” sings Jonathan Higgs, of Everything Everything on their latest single, “Planets.” It’s a little bit out there, be warned, but it’s pulling me in.
This band continues to impress, but I think last week’s “Arch Enemy” was better.
Lianne La Havas’ voice could cut glass. It’s so precise and boundless. She sounded amazing on the original version of “Can’t Fight,” and the remix, by TSHA, just pushes that forward. Her, voice makes this track happen, while the beat is no joke. I’m hooked, they should collaborate more.
Soulcrane’s, “Another Step We Take,” is playing in the background as your jazz cut of the week. Happy Father’s Day!
