A man who was wounded in a shooting Friday in Austin on the West Side has died from his injuries.
The 27-year-old was pronounced dead at noon Saturday at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A Chicago police officer intervened in the shooting and fired at the suspected gunman, but it was unclear if the suspect was shot, police said.
About 11:45 a.m. Friday, the 27-year-old was driving in the 1500 block of North Laramie Avenue when someone fired shots at his car, striking him in the head, police said.
Community Safety Team officers saw the shooting unfold and one of the officers fired three shots at the male suspect, who ran west on Le Moyne Street and was not in custody, police said. It was not clear if he had been shot.
The shooting was initially reported as an exchange of gunfire between police and the victim, but CPD later clarified that another shooter was involved.
