At the end of the interview, he had the most interesting answer to the most interesting question. After being asked about a return to the Cubs after this season is over, he was clear that it won’t be ruled out. He grew up playing for the Chicago Cubs so why wouldn’t he at least consider coming back to a place where all that magic happened?

Whether he is saying that to look like he is keeping his options open or not is to be inferred but it certainly seems genuine. The Cubs certainly have a spot for him going into 2022 and beyond, especially since he has proven that he can play literally every position on the diamond.

Kris Bryant confirmed that he would consider coming back to the Chicago Cubs.

The question for Bryant would be whether or not he would be want to return to a team that might take a while to be postseason contenders again. Even if he came back, Anthony Rizzo is gone, Javier Baez is gone, Craig Kimbrel is gone, and perhaps most importantly, Theo Epstein is gone. They have a long way to go before they are championship-caliber again.

Bryant is still at a good age where he could help mold some of the young guys that will be coming through soon. However, if he wants to chase more postseason contention right now, his best options might be elsewhere. Either way, it is good to hear that he would at least consider coming back to play for the team that started it all for him.

He has been nothing short of brilliant for the Cubs organization. It probably didn’t end the way most people wanted to see it end but there doesn’t seem to be any resentment from anyone. Hopefully, it ends up working out long-term for everyone involved.
