In a last ditch effort to raise Republican interest in an investigation into the way the attack on our nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021 was instigated, organized and funded, Democratic congressmen are flirting with the idea of changing the name of our Capitol to Benghazi.
Granted, few Americans, especially those on the GOP or L-O-P side of the aisle know anything about Benghazi, but they sure loved talking about it.
You can read about that in OK, dickhead, what about Benghazi? – a piece inspired by my one-time friend, Lyle, a permanent resident of Glencoe, IL and the Fox bubble.
Quick: In what country is Benghazi located?
It’s OK if you had to look it up, at least you were interested in learning a FACT, which eliminates you from the pool of inertia in which Republicans seem to be drowning.
I wish I was smart enough to understand why ANY lawmaker would not only ignore, but condemn an investigation into a violent attempt to overturn a presidential election.
They have no problem supporting audits conducted by Trump supporters with ZERO qualifications to audit anything.
Audits, by the way into an election that was authoritatively declared to be the most secure, free and fair in our history by Trump’s own Attorney General and Department of Homeland Security.
An election that was certified as such by every election committee and Secretary of State in the country.
I wish I was smart enough to understand how Liz Cheney, the Conservative’s Conservative became a pariah within her own party for simply calling out obvious and transparent lies.
Last on this year’s wish list is a way for me to understand how we got to a place where our political leaders can look into the cameras and tell us not to believe what we saw and heard with our own eyes and ears, that it never happened or that it didn’t happen they way we saw it happen.
It’s the GOP version of Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, These are not the droids you’re looking for.
Trey Gowdy, one of the leaders of the Investigate Benghazi movement admitted in no uncertain terms that the entire charade was an attempt to undermine any future candidacy of then Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
After 9 lengthy and costly investigations, Gowdy’s committee produced an 800-page treatise excoriating everyone (except themselves), but could find no evidence of wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton.
You can read about that HERE.
It’s ironic that Clinton still won the poplar vote in 2016 by a margin of over 3 million, but it also highlights what an innocent person does when called to appear before Congress; she sat and answered their idiotic questions for 11 hours.
Throughout the era of Donnie, his supporters rarely defended him with his own virtues, but instead deflected with a barrage of What about…?s, the fundamental tenet of the dreaded disease, Whataboutism.
While I find Republican Whataboutism and their phony moral equivalences despicable and desperate, I think that the January 6 Select Committee can easily be defended by reasonable people with one very legitimate whataboutism.
What about Benghazi?
