Injuries, Updates, and Trends
A real tough luck loss for Matt Swarmer yesterday as he held the opposition to just 2 runs over 7 innings while punching out 10. He’s been really good over the last couple of months but has had little to show for it in the win column. He’s allowed more than 2 runs just once over his last 12 games (8 GS), for a 2.40 ERA, but he’s gone just 3-3 over that span.

Game Recap
The Smokies received a solid effort from their pitching staff, but the offense managed just six base runners all night and basically never threatened, as a two-out triple by Bradlee Beesley was the only time they put a man in scoring position all night.

Game Recap
A 13-hit attack by the Cubs offense and 13 combined Ks through the first 8 innings by starter D.J. Herz and reliever Zachary Leigh put the team in position for a win. They led 5-4 heading into the heading into the bottom of the 8th, but Leigh allowed a run to tie the score and then Gabriel Jaramillo couldn’t hold the Snappers down in the 9th, as South Bend watched another late lead evaporate.

Injuries, Updates, and Trends
As the season draws to a close, Bryce Ball (.211/.359/.409 with 13 HR in 99 games between CHC/ATL orgs) has picked up the pace a bit. Over his last 15 games he is batting .288/.422/.596 (174 wRC+) with 4 doubles and 4 homers and 12 walks.
Zachary Leigh did give up a run, but it is easy to see what attracted him to the Cubs. He throws easy gas, consistently in the upper-90s.
