It’s a very light week, considering it’s Opening Day for baseball season. And a few places that had closed since the start of the COVID lockdown are set to finally reopen. As long was we don’t go into another surge.
On the heels of Imperial Oak opening their second space in the former Brixie’s in Brookfield, I found word of two more now places. First Forest Brewing has set up in the former Blue Nose Brewery, at 6119 East Ave. in Hodgkins. They’re just making their first beers, but meanwhile have several guest taps from Soundgrowler, Miskatonic, Maplewood, and other local brewers.
And the Daily Herald is reporting that a business named Relative Brewing Co. is seeking a permit to built a 10-barrel microbrewery and small taproom on Spring Street in Roselle, just off their Main St. and a few blocks from Pollyanna’s Roselaire taproom.

12:00 pm • Baseball Opening Day!
Orange & Brew Bottle Shop & Tap, 1027 Burlington Ave., Downers Grove, IL (630) 541-3880 Map
It’s time for Opening Day! And we’re going to make it fun for all! Starting at Noon, we’re tapping two American League kegs, and two National League kegs and we’re pitting the 1983 American League Rookie of the Year against the 1998 National League Rookie of the Year for a donation for the first kegs to run out.
The AL is represented by Noon Whistle’s Gummiskey hazy, Hailstorm’s South Side Irish red, and the beneficiary is Ron Kittle Charities.
The NL is represented by Noon Whistle’s Cubbie Gummy hazy, AleSmith’s .394 hazy, and the beneficiary is the Wood Family Foundation.
No howlers on these, and no mug club pours. Whichever league kegs kick first earns its charity a $500 donation from Orange & Brew and those of you helping to drink! Get ready to welcome baseball back, and to help raise some money for charity. Be sure to check out both charity pages to learn more about the great work they do!
