Wicker Park diner Dove’s to reopen
The Good News
After an 18 month absence, Wicker Park’s beloved neighborhood diner Dove’s Luncheonette, the retro-inspired MexTex eatery that first launched in 2014 from Paul Kahan and One Off Hospitality (avec, The Publican, The Violet Hour, Big Star), is officially reopening doors at 9 a.m. on Monday October 11th.
Dove’s is getting back to it with an expanded menu of new daytime options plus the return of hearty favorites (like Chicken Fried Chicken and the Burnt Ends Hash) and more.
Plus there’s new tequila and mezcal-friendly cocktails.
The Celebration starts Sunday
To celebrate the occasion, the Dove’s team will be taking over the Big Star taco truck, posting up for an opening preview by the Wicker Park Farmer’s Market at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 10th and handing out FREE mini fried chicken sandwiches to the first 250 people who stop by.
What’s to come
Over the coming months, the team will roll out an expanded “grab and go” menu with food and fresh squeezed juices, perfect for those hopping on and off the nearby Damen Blue Line stop or for those not yet ready to dine in. Come springtime, Dove’s will introduce an expanded sidewalk patio to accommodate those looking to take in vibrant energy Wicker Park offers, right in the heart of the neighborhood.
Located in the heart of Wicker Park, Dove’s Luncheonette is a loving tribute to the bygone neighborhood diners of Chicago’s past and the flavors of the American South and Mexico. Set to the sounds of 1960s and 70s Chicago soul and blues, the all-day neighborhood hangout features a menu of southern-inspired Mexican comfort food, which includes bold takes on pozole, fried chicken and enchiladas created by Chef & Partner Paul Kahan, Culinary Director Chris Miller, and Dove’s Executive Sous Chef Sam O’Keefe . The diner’s acclaimed tequila and mezcal-focused cocktail program boasts a library of 120 agave-based spirits. Drawing its name from the drifter in Nelson Algren’s 1956 novel “A Walk on the Wild Side,” the 41-stool luncheonette offers daytime counter service, making it the perfect neighborhood gathering spot.
