The Chicago Cubs are in a world of hurt right now, rebuilding just five years after winning their first World Series in 108 years.
Back in 2015, the year before winning it, it looked like they seriously had a chance to win multiple championships based on where their team was trending. Well, a couple of deep playoff runs resulted in one World Series title but things have not gone well since.
There are plenty of mistakes that led to the Chicago Cubs’ current rebuild.
It is fair to say that a lot of their current issues were brought on themselves. They are going to blame the “losses of biblical proportion” for their current situation but a deeper dive will tell you that mistakes are the reason they are in the situation they are in. Nobody saw the COVID-19 pandemic coming but every team has had to deal with it. Many other of the elite teams in Major League Baseball has continued to go for it while the Cubs go backward.
They were a good baseball team as recently as 2020. They won the National League Central Divison and had the lead for the entire season. In the playoffs, they died out as they couldn’t score. The Miami Marlins won their three-game series in two. It was a tough look for this Cubs team as they are clearly going in the wrong direction.
Some people are going to be in denial that the Cubs are rebuilding but their moves this offseason make it clear. They have been selling off a few of their players and have let some of their more impactful ones walk. These moves are a direct result of mistakes made by the front office.
